The petition asks the council to show us what it is already doing. This page is about what should happen next.
A network that records everyone should not exist by default. Recording every car on a public street is not a security measure. It is a movement record.
- Delete the data. Years of residents' location history should not sit waiting for a reason.
- Let residents vote. A binding referendum on whether the network continues is the bare minimum.
- Set an end date. If the city cannot justify the network in public, the cameras come down on a schedule the council commits to in writing.
No published policy, no named operators, no audited searches, no limit on who can look, and no vote by the people being recorded. A program that cannot be explained to the public should not be run on the public.
